You all know the troubles with overflowing inboxes. I'm a bit fan of Inbox Zero and I found a lot of ways to work fast with my mails. I did switch off signaling ingoing mails, I use a lot of filtering and a good folder structure.

But sometimes my own lazyiness get into my way. So I started to put "Inbox Zero" into my skype status if I get my box empty. But after some times I decided to automatised this message.

I do know that Patrice does automated Skype updates with his Mac. After a quick search I found out that on Windows Skype has a COM-Api and they even provide a little PHP Example. With PHP it is also pretty easy so to acess an IMAP inbox (MS Exchange also provide a IMAP access). So I wrote a quick script that updates my Skype-Message:

This does not only demonstrate how you can overcom your own lazyiness with open comunication and automated tools. It's in my point of view also a nice example what it's possible with PHP outside of the classical website rendering.

After years of archiving every mail I did get I changed the tactic last week. I do not archive anymore spam, most ad mails and auto-generated mails. I thought that saving all mails would probably help me one day to train my mailfilters. But now (a bit "technologie-lazy" in my spare time currently) I decided that a fast click on the delete button is much faster then everything else and let my have a bit more email efficiency.

Nunja, Schulen sind nicht gerad dafür bekannt besonders gut oder inteligent zu Informieren. Jaja ich weiss die habens mit Bolognia-Reform und politischen Quereleien auch nicht gerade leicht.

Den Vogel abgeschossen hat heute wieder einmal ein Mail aus dem Abteilungssekretariat unser Schule. Im Mail mit dem Betreff "Abteilungssekretariate E und I -  Umzugsmitteilung" steht das die Sekretariate der Abteilung Elektrotechnik und Informatik das Gebäude wechseln, soweit so gut.

In einem kurzen Abschnit steht dann auch noch "Das Büro des neuen Abteilungsvorstandes der Abt. Informatik, Herr Prof. Dr. Andreas Rinkel, befindet sich zur Zeit noch im Gebäude 6, Raum 6.110.". Ahmm, Sorry! Wohl nicht richtig gehört...
Da wechselt der Abteilungsvorstand und der Schulleitung, der Schule in der sonst für alles und jedes ein Mail verschickt wird, ist dies keine Meldung wert. Solche Dinge erfährt man dann als Fussnote aus einem Mail das eigentlich über den Umzug der Sekretariate informiert.

Sie ist wieder leer! Ich habe es endlich wieder mal geschaft meine Inbox auf null zu bringen. Zwar sind immer noch einige Mails im Ordner "Open", denen habe ich aber bereits den Kampf angesagt.

Eine Zusammenstellung von Produktivitätstipps mit eMails findet man in Stefan Bucher's Blog (bin leider noch nicht dazugekommen alle zu lesen). Zu eMails nach den Ferien, im beruflichen Umfeld empfiehlt es sich grosszügig zu löschen. Wichtige eMails kommen dann automatisch nochmals (ich kenne Leute die die Inbox nach den Ferien markieren und löschen!). Und selbstverständlich kann man Personen in seinem Umfeld gar nicht häufig genug erziehen vernüftige Betreff zu wählen und strukturierte eMails zu schreiben.
